My Capricious Cowgirl: Willamette Wives, Book Four
Despair brought her to Oregon... his love brought her into his arms.
Out of destruction comes hope; out of silence comes profound love.
Matthew Stone is a rancher who finds his greatest pleasure in working in the great outdoors, doing his part in building the Rose Ranch in the Oregon territory. He has watched his friends wed, and accepts their teasing about his confirmed bachelorhood. All that changes the day he is out repairing fences and looks up to see a horse jumping the railing, aware of how dangerous that is, as the last fence drops away. His warning does nothing to stop the rider, and a scream has him racing down the cliff, expecting to find the worst. What he finds instead is a small boy, clinging to a boulder while the river attempts to pull him away.
Sally Jefferson has just arrived in a strange place, and her young son Davy is the only person she knows there. Devastation and heartache have followed them as they braved the Oregon Trail, and she fears that, after surviving over two-thousand miles, she won't survive another moment when Davy's life is threatened.
The moment Matthew and Sally meet is like an echo of the storm that drove her from her home, as lightning seems to strike between them.
Matthew never expected to fall in love. Now he finds himself head over heels not only for Sally, but for a boy who doesn't speak and yet has stolen his heart.
Will Matthew be able to convince Sally that life can begin again? Will the fact that his very touch ignites her soul be enough to allow her to accept not only his love, but his discipline?

Hello Red Petticoat Saloon readers!
Hasn't this been an absolutely amazing Western series? I have read every single one to date.
You know, ever since I watched Westerns as a small girl, I was captivated by the vast wilderness that is America and by the strong men and women who blazed a trail into the depths of that beautiful, unspoiled land.
I have continued my fascination with the American West as an adult woman, most especially admiring the modern but wholly unrealistic adaptation of a cowboy.
Who can resist the allure of a tall handsome, strong and sexy man dressed in leather chaps and a Stetson? Especially a cowboy fully in command of his destiny and of his woman.
When I was asked to write a tale for the Red Petticoat series - despite the fact I am English and live in the U.K - I jumped at the chance to create a cowboy, one straight out of my own personal dreams!
I hope you enjoy my tale and like Tey as much as I do... sigh.
If you enjoy Sunny's Safe Haven and would like to read another of my Westerns, I have written two: Cowboy Caveat set in the late 1800s and Twin Turmoil, which is a mystery Western beginning modern day but predominantly set in the 1960s.
Sunny's Safe Haven by Vanessa Brooks
When life dealt Sunny a dud pack of cards, she didn't expect a gunslinger to be the one that altered the game!
Stephanie Kendrick is a young woman living in Culpepper Cove. She has been dating her young man, Kelly, for a number of months when she is compromised by him. She soon discovers that she is with child but Kelly, her secret fiancé, immediately disowns her. Desperate to marry him, she confides in her father expecting his support and help with forcing a marriage between her and her erstwhile beau. However, when he turns her out into the street, Stephanie finds her only refuge is the local bawdy house, the Red Petticoat Saloon. She finds support and friendship within the walls of the saloon and when Madam Jewel gifts her with her new gem name after the beautiful sunstone, Stephanie decides to remain there working as a new gem, Sunny.
There have been a number of gold thefts en-route from the co-operative Merit Mine and Patrick Tey, a gunslinger, is hired to protect the shipments of gold being brought down from the mine to the bank. Tey arrives in town unprepared for the sight of a pretty young woman being attacked by her own father. He quickly finds the appealing blonde is on his mind day and night and before long he is smitten. Pursuing her proves problematic. Sunny is convinced her path lies elsewhere; she fully intends living as a Can-can dancer at the Red Petticoat, joining the other pretty gems who work and live in the Californian gold rush town of Culpepper Cove.
Tey has his work cut out for him on two fronts. Uncover the identity of the thieves and convince Sunny that while he adores her dancing skills, he wants to be the sole member of her audience. Will Sunny allow herself to believe she can be loved even though she is a fallen woman-often falling over the handsome gunslinger's lap?
